MIKA!

Surely you haven't forgotten about my infatuation with MIKA. So it shouldn't surprise you that I've been on Cloud 9 today after hearing that his U.S. tour has been announced and he'll be coming to Atlanta on June 16!

I'm buying tickets tomorrow! Anyone want to come along?

Tour de Georgia: A picture post

I know you've all been dying to see my pictures from this year's Tour de Georgia, haven't you?
Come on, humor me.

This is what's called at peloton. Basically, it's a group of cyclists riding very, very close to one another. Oh yeah, and they're the ones who are winning. So they're good.

This is Christian Vande Velde of Team CSC. He finished in 2nd place over the entire weeklong Tour de Georgia.

It's the Jittery Joe's Mini Cooper! I love Minis — especially Minis that carry coffee.

Remember those hot legs from a couple posts ago? They belong to this guy, Ivan Stevic from Toyota United Pro Cycling Team. He won this stage of the race.

And this would be me. It was hot, and I didn't want my picture taken. I bet you couldn't tell!

This is possibly the best picture of the day! Jim, who is the best friend anyone on this earth could have, is my reason for going to the Tour de Georgia every year. He got me interested in professional cycling, and as a result, I tag along when I can. He's a nut ... who likes blue strawberry snow cones.

Hello, my name is Stacey ...

... and I'm a bad blogger.

I know I promised pictures and stories from the Tour de Georgia a couple of days ago ... But my life has taken quite a wicked spin on the Tilt-o-Whirl lately, and I just haven't gotten around to it.

I had hoped to entice you all with that magnificent shot of the winner's legs and *ahem*, but I can see only Felicia appreciates the complete and utter gorgeousness of the picture. Ha!

At any rate, I'll get to it. I promise. Maybe tomorrow, maybe this weekend. It'll happen after I get my life back in check.

Have I mentioned that I'm never dating again?

How I spent my Tuesday off

Need I say more?!?

But seriously ... I managed to watch more than the incredibly fit cyclists' bods during Stage 2 of this year's Tour de Georgia in Rome on Tuesday.

Today was a long day, but you can expect a full recap with some real photos tomorrow. Until then, feel free to click on this one for a larger view.

Is it Monday yet?

All I can say is thank goodness I'm off the next two days ... Negative attitudes are bringing me down - and they've really become contagious lately.

So, while the rest of the civilized world is beginning their week, my weekend will be starting, and I am SO ready! I don't really know what I'll be doing, but I think at least one night will revolve around movie watching and popcorn. Mmm ...

Weighing a scale purchase

God ... that sounds like a really bad newspaper headline, but oh well ... that's my specialty these days.

Anyhow, I just wanted to throw out a quick question that maybe someone could help me with.

I'm about to buy a bathroom scale and am somewhat overwhelmed by all the options out there. This afternoon at Bed Bath and Beyond, there were about 15 different scales to choose from. I didn't get a good look because they were restocking and most of the aisle was filled boxes, but that's probably a good thing. I need time to consider my options.

So, I'm asking you guys - do you have a really good scale I should look into? I'm very curious about the ones that measure body fat in addtion to telling me just how much weight I've gained over the last year. *shudder*

Any suggestions?

Here and there

Because I'm a slacker and truly can't compose a thoughtful blog post just yet, here are some observations:

• Working out at 1 a.m. is not a good idea. No matter how tired you are before you start, it will not make you more tired ... it will keep you awake until well past 4 a.m.
• Boots Botanics Ultimate Lift Eye Gel is the most amazing product I've ever purchased. The two things I truly dislike about my face are the insane creases and discoloration under my eyes. They've always been there ... well, the first time I noticed something wasn't right was in the seventh grade when a first-grader asked me on the school bus why it looked like somebody gave me two black eyes. That's when I started a futile attempt at masking the dark circles with concealer ... a few years later I began using creams and have had the same regimen every day since ... until now. This eye gel instantly brightened my eyes and took several years off the creases (i.e. wrinkles). It is amazing, and is sooo much less expensive than anything I've ever bought ... only $13.99 at Target!! Sorry to sound like an ad, but you've got to try this stuff.
• I'm tired of the sudden rebirth of winter. Spring needs to get back here because ... well, because I said so!
• Thanks to my friend Megan, I've finally been introduced to Rufus Wainwright. I'd heard of him, read about him and always wanted to hear his music, but never got around to it thanks to my forgetfulness. But now, the cd Megan made for me is all I've listened to over the last few days in my car ... good stuff.

That's about all I've got! Have a happy Thursday!!

Because I really have nothing to blog about

I took down my curtains and blinds yesterday afternoon in the middle of a massive cleaning frenzy. Needless to say, Anna was thrilled and spent much of the afternoon chirping at birds outside my bedroom window.

I've had a rough couple of days, and for some reason when I'm feeling helpless, I clean like a madwoman. It makes me feel better, and who doesn't love a spotless house?

But things are looking up ... I'm going to my absolute favorite restaurant tonight with a group of friends. I know it will be awesome, and I can't wait to enjoy an amazing meal, some wine and good company.

It's winter again!

This is what happens when you get a little too excited about warm weather.

The plants I bought over the last couple of weeks are now taking up a lot of space in my tiny apartment. (This picture is only a glimpse into my plant-filled home.)

I had to bring them all inside last night as temperatures dipped into the low 30s. Tonight our lows are expected to be in the 20s. ... All this after nearly 90 degree temperatures last week!!

I guess I've learned my lesson, though. As tempting as they are, it's best to wait until spring has truly kicked in before going crazy with planting.

Who's Dick Vitale?

Sometimes I feel like I've got my finger on the pulse of society ... I pretty much know who's who in the world of movie stars and musicians. But admitedly, I am usually left in the dark when it comes to sports. I love going to sporting events — espcially hockey, but also baseball, basketball and football. However, I cannot for the life of me make myself interested in sports broadcasts — especially commentary/analysis.

And that's why I didn't know who Dick Vitale was.

Yeah, he looked vaguely familiar, but Jim chalked that up to some pizza commercial I probably saw him in. But anyhow, the man seated about 20 feet in front of me along with three other sportscasters was Mr. Vitale himself, taping a portion of ESPN's Sports Center on Monday in Atlanta just before the NCAA championship game. And wouldn't ya know, I didn't have my camera with me, considering I was only planning on going shopping ... not getting a lesson in sports broadcasting.

I watched with sadness as people left and right snapped pictures of Mr. Vitale and the gigantic crystal championship trophy. And I thought of you — my blog friends — and how I would not be able to illustrate the shear intensity of what was unfolding before me. ... The lights, the fans, the cameras, the men in makeup, the security ... it was madness, I say!

Oh, there was also this guy, who I also thought looked somewhat familiar, but maybe I just figured he was important based on the amount of greasy goop he had in his hair and all the makeup he had on his face. Oh yeah, and he was on his cell phone gesturing wildly for about 30 minutes. Nothing screams importance more than an emphatic cell phone conversation.

But, like I mentioned before, the original reason for our trip to Atlanta was not the NCAA Championship madness. It was far more important ... shopping!!!

Before we headed over the IKEA, Jim gave me a lesson in Atlanta's Southern cooking history. Mary Mac's Tea Room, an Atlanta institution for more than 60 years, has fed famous folks from Hillary Rodham Clinton to James Brown and even wrestler/Gov. Jesse Ventura.

Mary Mac's is a huge place ... large rooms filled with businessmen and women, mothers and daughters, guys and girls — all eating down-home Southern food in the most friendly atmosphere I've seen in a restaurant in ages.

Our server, a vibrant, older black lady who wore huge pink pearl earrings and a bright smile, took our drink orders and nearly jumped back in suprise when I didn't ask for sweet tea.

With our drinks, she brought out my first ever bowl of pot likker. Have you guys had this stuff before? I'd never heard of it, and I think that was obvious by the look on my face as I gazed into the tiny bowl that held green water and green leafy things.

Our waitress smiled and said the pot likker was complementary and looked at me with a bit of pity, saying, "It's the juices left over from cooking turnip greens, honey. It's got all the nutrients you'll need for the day." And then she explained precisely how to eat the pot likker ... "First, you crumble this piece of cornbread on top, mix it in and take two drops of this (vinegar/pepper stuff) and stir. It's soooo good!"

I wouldn't classify the watery mixture as "good," but it wasn't necessarily "bad," either.

Next, Jim and I wrote down our lunch orders on Mary Mac's order sheets ... I had fried chicken, sweet potato souffle and green beans. Jim ordered chicken pot pie, cabbage, fried okra and an appetizer of fried green tomatoes.

It was all incredibly delicious! If you're ever in Atlanta and want a yummy Southern-style meal, head on over to Ponce de Leon and find Mary Mac's. You'll thank me for it, I promise.

The rest of our shopping day was uneventful, really. I scored a couple great deals at IKEA, but that's to be expected. Then we headed over to Atlantic Station and shopped for several hours before running into the ESPN filming, which along with Mary Mac's, was the highlight of our trip!

Taking a short break

I'm still here ... but have been pretty busy over the last several days!

Let's see, there was a birthday gathering with many, many mai tai's in Atlanta on Saturday, work on Sunday, shopping at IKEA and Atlantic Station yesterday and groceries, bills and more shopping this afternoon!

I'll try to post later tonight or tomorrow! It's been a fun few days!
