Karma, don't fail me now

I'm going to need some seriously good vibes aimed in my general direction tomorrow.

So, if you pray, remember me if you can.
If you don't, positive thoughts would be good, too!

If you want to know what's up, e-mail me, and I'll be happy to clue you in. I'm just not going to broadcast it over the interweb.

When dreams are a little too weird

For the longest time I absolutely knew I didn't want to have children. I like kids, but I also love to travel whenever the opportunity presents itself. I like to go out with friends on a moment's notice, and I never really saw myself as the "mommy" type.

Then 29 hit, and 30 hit harder. So far 31 has been filled with baby this and baby that - from my best friend approaching her due date (April 1) to what happened to me a couple days ago while walking to my car.

I had just left a store and noticed a cute little boy who was probably about 2 years old waiting beside his dad's car while his father was getting something out of the back seat. I smiled and waved as he looked across the parking aisle at me. Then, out of no where, the child squealed, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!!!" and came bolting toward me - just as a car turned down the aisle. I leapt across the parking lot, scooped the little boy up and plunked him into his father's arms just as the driver figured out what was going on in front of his enormous SUV in time to hit the brakes.

Wide-eyed, the dad thanked me profusely, and I apologized for waving at the little boy - which probably prompted him to come running toward me. And that was that.

Until later that night when I went to sleep. In my dream I was expecting a baby. I was married and was super happy. It was perfect.

Until I had the ... PUPPY.

Yep, I dreamed I had a puppy. A little brown weiner dog, at that.

I'm not one to analyze my dreams, but something tells me this one would be pretty interesting to try to figure out.

I have got to get babies off my brain before my dreams get any weirder.

Cooking tip of the day

Plug in electric mixer after putting in beaters.

I'm sure that if the mixer was turned ON while inserting the beaters it would be rather painful. In fact, I bet one's fingers could get pretty bruised.

Of course, not that I know.

I don't even know what to say

At this very moment, the two guys (living as a couple) below me are blaring Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."

Normally loud, floor-vibrating music irks me. This, however, is fantastic.

Especially because they're singing along with Cyndi - rather convincingly - at the top of their lungs.

Nothing surprises me with those two anymore.

I'm only 31 ...

... And yet it somehow slipped my mind this afternoon that I'd been to the grocery store.

No, I'm not talking hours later. I mean as I walked up the steps to my apartment, I sensed I was forgetting something. But it wasn't until I had let myself in and put my keys down to settle in for my evening off that I realized I'd left all my groceries in my car.

It's not like I'd run a lot of errands today. Nope. I had intentionally gone to the grocery store - and only the grocery store - for specific items to make dinner - and I was HUNGRY.

This is not cool.

Do I haaave to go home?

I leave Florida tomorrow. They may just have to pry me from the beach. I don't want to go!

Today was filled with several long walks along the beach, a drive into Port St. Joe for lunch and dinner in Apalachicola at a place called Boss Oyster.

Another perfect day.

More pictures:

A bunch of poor little starfish washed up on the shore over night.

Another cute little bird.

Lonely lounge chairs.

Stunned. Thrilled. Fierce.

I interrupt this beachy blogginess to celebrate the winner of this season of "Project Runway:" Christian Siriano!

Oh my goodness. This guy is fabulous, or "fierce," as he so aptly puts it.

I haven't blogged at all about this season, like I did last year, but you better bet that I've watched every single episode. From the very first show, I've loved Christian. He pumped out flawless designs with what seemed like little effort.

The kid is only 21, but dangit. He's got it together. And now, maybe, he'll be able to purchase an actual bed with his $100,000 ~ bless his heart, he was sleeping on the floor of his design room!

Anyhow, I'm absolutely thrilled. And I just had to share!

What did you guys think? Anyone else watching?!?

Picture postcards from Florida

Today has been nothing short of fabulous. We drove into Apalachicola to have lunch at a little corner cafe in the middle of the downtown area. Afterward, we walked up to the water's edge, where there were several old shrimp boats docked.

I must admit I was quite fascinated by these boats. I can't imagine what it would be like to head out every morning to cast those huge nets hoping for a good catch.

Nearby, there were so many cute little shops with a so many unique items, but sadly I am extremely broke, so I bought nothing. It was just as fun to look, though!

Back on Cape San Blas, the weather was cool this afternoon, but I walked the stretch of beach near the house where we're staying. It is absolutely gorgeous here, and so very secluded. I was out for a little more than an hour and only saw one other person. Fantastic!

I'm a photographer at heart, but not a great one, so bear with me here. I took LOTS of pictures, and I feel like sharing a few! Here ya go! Click on the pictures to make them bigger ... much bigger ... I didn't scale them down enough! oops.

Bubbly!

This was the start of the national park at the end of Cape San Blas.

Jim throwing sand at me. He thought it would deter me from taking his picture. Silly boy.

And here I am freezing my butt off in the COLD water.

The sunset this evening was breathtaking. I love it here.

Soggy start

It may be stormy, but it's still gorgeous here. The wind is knocking our bamboo wind chime around like nobody's business, but that, combined with the sound of crashing waves, is something very close to perfect.

It should clear up here in the next few hours. Then it'll be time to explore this little spit of land that has already won me over. One day I will be a Floridian.

One day.

In my element

I know, I know ... I was on vacation less than a month ago. But, I've wandered off again, this time to a beach house with friends.

It's fabulous here on Cape San Blas.

I have a feeling this trip is exactly what the doctor ordered. I'll be posting with photos every day so check back!

Must. Go. To. DQ.

Upon clicking on the "accessories" link on the web site of one of my favorite stores, ZGallerie, I suddenly got the strong urge to run out for a hefty soft-serve vanilla ice cream cone.

I seriously could not have these vases in my home. I'd succumb to their tempting swirls every time I laid eyes on them.

Aww, you guys are awesome

I want to thank everyone who offered kind words of support last week. From the comments to the phone calls and text messages, it was more than I could have expected, and I must say I am so thankful to know each of you.

Things are looking up here. I'm working on taking a new approach to the things that have been bumming me out on a regular basis. Positive thinking will get me a lot further than dwelling on where I wish I were in life. My hope is that I can maintain a positive attitude for as long as it takes for me to figure things out.

Again, thank you all for helping to lift me up out of a pretty dark funk.
